The Maker Ecosystem: Transforming Economic & Workforce Development

November 14 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$50

Wednesday, November 14, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

The Maker Movement is transforming the global economy, changing the face of the workplace, and putting the power of digital manufacturing into the hands of individuals. The skills necessary to thrive in this new environment include creativity, perseverance, collaboration, and critical thinking. In an effort to cultivate and support a new generation of workers capable of meeting the needs of this new economy, Sonoma County has built a maker “ecosystem” involving K-12 education, local colleges and universities, nonprofit community makerspaces, and local business and industry partners. Learn about how this maker ecosystem was created, how it’s helping local workforce development efforts and enhancing the learning environment for students. Experience the “power of making” in a 15,000 sq. ft. community makerspace.

The afternoon will include presentations by leaders in the local maker movement, demonstrations of maker tools and equipment, a display of student projects, and opportunity for hands-on activities. We’ll finish the tour with a reception featuring local wines and craft beers.

Limited to 60 attendees
