Wildfire Prevention/Remembrance Forum ~ Napa

October 9, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa will host a wildfire prevention forum and remembrance ceremony Oct. 9 in Calistoga to mark the first anniversary of the devastating Tubbs Fire.

“It’s been a year of unparalleled hardship and challenge that revealed just how vulnerable we are to wildfire,” Dodd said. “But we have learned much from this terrible tragedy and are now taking important steps toward preventing future disasters. It is in this spirit of optimism that we rebuild, recover and thrive.”

The senator will discuss his comprehensive wildfire legislation, Senate Bill 901, which was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown earlier this month. He will lead a panel discussion about recovery and preparedness featuring local officials. Napa County law enforcement and fire representatives will preside over a remembrance ceremony honoring the work of first responders and residents.

The Tubbs Fire started on Tubbs Lane in Calistoga the night of Oct. 8, 2017. It was blown by strong winds into Santa Rosa, destroying 36,000 acres, more than 5,600 homes and killing 22 people before being contained Oct. 31. It was among a series of Northern California fires that started about the same time and remains the most destructive wildfire in state history.

Joining Dodd will be Napa County Supervisor Diane Dillon, Calistoga Mayor Chris Canning, Napa County Fire Chief Barry Biermann, Napa County Chaplain Lee Shaw and others. The forum will be at the Calistoga Community Center,. 1307 Washington St., Calistoga, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. To RSVP: contact Angelica Mancuso at 707-224-1990 or angelica.mancuso@sen.ca.gov.
